A church community is more than a weekly gathering or service. Our model for church has to flow from the Bible and the example Jesus gave us. We look to His life always to understand truth, since He declared that He was the Truth. His model wast a group of people committed to following Jesus together - His disciples. Church community is a place where you can follow Christ, worship, learn from Scriptures, pray with others, and build relationships rooted in faith.

A healthy church community is one that is primarily focused on honoring and blessing Jesus first. Everything else they do should funnel the people of God into a deeper union and communion with Jesus - whether that is small groups, services and gatherings, bible studies, etc.

RiverChurch meets in the heart of downtown Chattanooga and welcomes individuals, families, and anyone seeking a Christ-centered community focused on worship, prayer, Scripture, and communion. We have roughly 75 people that gather with us weekly and are filled with all ages, singles, married, families with small kids and babies, as well as teens. We have a large age range from our youngest being babies and our oldest being in their 80s. 

How to Find the Right Church for You

If you’re exploring churches, here are a few helpful steps:

• Check out websites: Read their statement of faith, values, learn about their team and structure - this will help you know what is important to them and if it matches what is important to you!
• Visit two to three different churches in person to sense if they are carrying the values, authenticity and Holy Spirit. 
• Pay attention to how worship, prayer, and teaching are approached - this will give you a guide to whether they are truly grounded in the Scriptures and pursuing the proper things
• Look for a place where you feel welcomed and comfortable by the people of God - a healthy church is a humble and serving church. 
• If accessible, try to meet with a staff member of that church to ask any questions, get a greater understanding of their pathways in helping the people of God grow and learn Him more. 

Finding the right church can take time, and that’s okay. Jesus was a slow, steady and intentional man. It's okay to take your time, be patient and prayerful in this process and Jesus will guide your steps.
